IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, team-oriented individual and will be known for his or her commitment in providing exemplary customer service. S/he will have a working knowledge of computers and Windows-based programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. The successful candidate will be flexible and self-motivated, and will display a willingness to learn and be able to work as efficiently and accurately as possible in a fast-paced environment. Spanish-speaking skills are highly desirable.


THE POSITION:

This is a 19-hour limited service position in the administrative office of the Recreation and Parks Department. Provides assistance to the public, organizations, and staff in booking facilities and processing course registrations, and provides clerical support to the Recreation & Parks staff.

Greets and assists the public in booking of facilities and processing course registration transactions; compiles and distributes various types of facility documents using Microsoft Word and Excel; answers phones, files, and photocopies; provides general clerical support; and performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:

Must be in the process of completing high school education or have earned a high school diploma or G.E.D.


Experience:

Previous volunteer experience or office work experience is desirable.

any combination of education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet the above minimum requirements.


Certificates:

A copy of your typing certificate (dated within the past 18 months) verifying a typing speed of 40 net words per minute must be attached to your application. It is your responsibility, as a candidate for this position, to obtain your typing certification. This can be done through a temporary employment agency or a business college. The City of Santa Maria will not accept typing tests taken from the Internet.


Knowledge of:

English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; working knowledge of Microsoft Office for Windows; and principles and practices of exemplary customer service. Spanish-speaking skills are highly desirable, but not required.


Ability to:

Follow directions; pay attention to detail; work independently and/or work under close supervision; communicate effectively orally and in writing; take a proactive approach to problem solving; and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.


License:

If required to drive while on City business, possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver License is required. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and be insurable to operate City vehicles.

Personal computer, 10 key calculator, phone, fax, and copy machines.
