Broadcom Corporation currently has an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Applications Engineer to utilize their software, systems, and technical Applications Engineering skills, to provide support to Tier 1 customers in the 10G/25G/40G Ethernet Controller market, and support our market leading NetXtreme family of devices. Fundamentally, your role is to help secure customer design wins and help these customers bring their products to market rapidly and successfully. You will contribute directly to the success of the products and customers that you support.
Areas of responsibility include:
• Providing system level support to Tier 1 Server OEM customers for Broadcom’s NetXtreme Network Interface Controllers in the US
• Interfacing with the customers on a daily basis about 10G/25G/40G NIC software/system issues, managing/tracking software releases for those customers, tracking customer problem reports, reproducing customer problems, trouble-shooting those problems, running joint bug review meetings with the customers, and driving the resolution of customer reported software problems across the business unit
• Coding reference drivers and documenting their behavior
• Developing end-user documentation including Programmer’s Guides
• Explaining Ethernet controller architecture
• Debugging complicated software and system related issues
• Training customers and Field Applications Engineers
• You will also be expected to interact closely with a variety of internal employees in Software Development, Quality Assurance, ASIC design, Architecture, Sales and Marketing
• Further, this position may require on-site support for our Development Partners in order to productize new Ethernet Controllers, including the bring-up and deployment of exciting new features like RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) and Advanced Virtualization
Job Requirements
• Typically requires a BS degree and 9 years of experience or an MS degree and 6 years of experience or a PhD and 3 years of experience.
• Must have experience developing host OS networking device drivers under Linux
• Must have mastered OS concepts of: Process, DMA engines, interrupts, Interrupt Handling, Memory Virtualization, Threads, IPC, user space and race
• Detailed knowledge of Server and PC architecture, HW, and operating systems
• PCI Express knowledge (PCIe) and the ability to capture and analyze PCIe traces
• Networking expertise under Windows and Linux
• Experience developing technical documentation
• Programming experience in the “C/C++” language
• Experience in reading and understanding of technical specifications of current technology (TCP/IP, iSCSI, etc…) and request for comments (RFCs)
• Experience in application and driver software development on one or more embedded Linux operating systems
• Knowledge of Cloud Computing and higher level concepts like Data Center Bridging (DCB) is a desired
• Windows and Linux driver and systems level software / firmware debugging experience
• Experience in performing direct OEM/ODM technical support and experience in communicating technical issues/problems to customers
• Outstanding problem solving and trouble-shooting skills
• Excellent communication skills and good teamwork
• Must be patient and tolerant with impatient customers
