PSI seeks entrepreneurial, dynamic and creative candidates with an interest in private sector approaches to development for the position of Communication Associate, Malaria and Child Survival. The Communication Associate is a key member of the Malaria and Child Survival Team whose mission is to deliver high-quality, demand-driven services to PSI’s field programs, helping to ensure technical integrity and programmatic success. This position is based in Washington DC and might require occasional travel.
RESPONSIBILITES: The Communication Associate is responsible for “telling the story” of PSI’s work in Malaria and Child Survival around the world. The Associate would help draft and implement a Communication plan for the MCS department, in cooperation the department’s Management team and the External Relations & Communication department. The position reports to the team’s Program Manager. Responsibilities include:
General
- Implement the Communication plan, in coordination with MCSD’s Management team and the External Relations & Communication department.
- Liaise with the External Relations & Communication department to ensure materials are in line with PSI’s communication guidelines
Social Media - Develop and maintain an online presence for the department (social media, PSI’s blog, etc)
- Collating digital assets for all blog posts, including photos, keyword tagging lists, video, etc.
- Managing the directors twitter account, and support other team members to actively tweet
- Targeting and fostering relationships with key digital influencers
PSI’s website and newsletters - Generate content and update the MCSD page of psi.org
- Help maintain the MCSD internal page
- Design, create and edit an internal newsletter
- Review the department’s internet presence (including LinkedIn profiles), and help harmonize and improve our message
- Develop at least one article for IMPACT (quarterly) for MCSD.
Conferences & Campaigns - Organize and oversee the logistics for the ASTMH conference and other conferences as necessary, coordinating with PSI communications department
- Creating digital toolkits for special campaigns and scheduling tweets, posts and other social media engagement daily and weekly
- Develop briefs and brochures (including infographics) on PSI’s Malaria and Child Care programs to develop visibility to donors and other NGOs
- Provides other assistance, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor"s degree in Science
- 2 year experience in Communications, Journalism, or scientific writing
- Ability to exercise solid communications judgment
- Demonstrated experience in digital communications (blogs, online communities) and use of social networking tools – Twitter, Facebook, etc. – to promote organizational objectives, a plus
- Exemplary writing skills, with solid verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Collaborative working style and ability to take initiative
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Familiarity with social media platforms and other digital tools, and a passion for using these tools to drive action and engagement
- Experience translating scientific jargon into compelling copy for lay audiences (preferred)
- Results-focused approach and commitment to going the extra mile
- Ability to work independently to prioritize work, set timelines, and make adjustments to work priorities as necessary
- Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint; web and graphic design experience a plus.
- Fluency in French preferred.
The successful candidate will have excellent writing, analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and cross-cultural skills; demonstrated ability to perform and prioritize a variety of tasks on short notice within designated deadlines.
