Job Summary:Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing & Communications, the Global Communications Officer is responsible for enhancing the visibility of PCI on the local, national, and international stages by generating media attention, marketing PCI’s online presence, and crafting content for distribution through all of PCI’s communications platforms. This position will be an integral part of PCI’s marketing and communication efforts, working closely on traditional and digital media to develop content, raise awareness, and generate donor interest, including direct online fundraising campaigns. This position is based in Washington, DC.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Contribute to the Communication and Marketing Strategy.

  • Ensure key messages are consistently communicated to relevant stakeholders.

  • Actively engage with U.S. and country office employees to promote PCI key messages: gain regular contributions of photos, stories and other materials for PCI use and ensure successful integration of materials to PCI website, blogs, etc. Work with country teams to distribute products to relevant stakeholders, including donors.

  • Provide advice and expertise to U.S. and country office staff on a range of communication, brand and marketing issues, methods, and approaches, ensuring that all materials are PCI branded.

  • Aggressively build and maintain an expanding media contact list with local, national, and international press.

  • Work with staff to draft and edit press releases as needed.

  • Prepare and pitch PCI stories to print, broadcast, and web journalists to ensure maximum coverage.

  • Identify opportunities to position PCI-approved issues and spokespeople in the news media.

  • Provide regular media activity summaries.

  • Oversee PCI’s blog editorial calendar, and work with relevant teams to develop the content on a monthly basis.

  • Execution of email marketing campaigns from development of content to production to online distribution.

  • Work with Web & Digital Marketing Manager in maintenance of content on PCI Global website.

  • Oversee the marketing of PCI’s technical resources both online and in print to promote the organization as a leader in the global development community.

Position Parameters/Special Requirements:


  • Ability to work overtime during peak periods

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor"s degree in appropriate field or technical training and 6 to 8 years of additional experience.

  • Three to four years professional well rounded experience in communications and brand management required.

  • Demonstrated record of success in developing and executing successful traditional and online communication strategies.

  • Nimble, responsive approach to implementing, evaluating, and iterating strategies and solutions.

  • Creative flair and intuition for thinking outside-of-the-box.

  • Expertise in story-telling and social media, especially in taking technical data and improving clarity for a lay audience.

  • Proven technical skills for email marketing.

  • Demonstrated experience working on complex communication initiatives with internal resources and external agencies.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to build collaborative, impactful relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to act as a program manager to drive multiple projects, prioritize, and meet simultaneous milestones.

  • Knowledge of NGOs in global health, non-profit, and philanthropic sectors and/or experience working in developing countries highly desired. Knowledge of and experience in private sector and/or Capitol Hill equally valued.

  • Track record of performance excellence, exceeding targets and objectives.
