Background:
Child protection in humanitarian situations is a priority for UNICEF at global, regional and national levels for increased visibility, advocacy, response, and fundraising purposes is a priority including in the context of the organization’s equity focus.
Due to peak workload and emergencies responses, a consultant is needed to respond to support the child protection in emergencies as follows:
· Provide inputs and submissions to briefs, press releases, humanitarian updates, Child Protection E-Bulletin and Child Protection technical support with a focus on emergencies.
· Strengthen planning, coordination, resource allocation and reporting functions for child protection priority countries: Working with Child Protection specialists, consolidatetechnical inputs to reports, briefing notes, talking points and humanitarian action documents. Support Fundraising activities and donor reporting requirements.
Purpose:
Provide ongoing technical and administrative support to Child Protection in Emergencies team in areas of organizing partners meetings, programme reporting, communication, advocacy, technical areas and fundraising activities.
Expected results:
· Support the Child protection (CP) Specialist/release and reintegration/ in organizing the technical validation workshop on the release and reintegration field handbook in New York.
- Compile information, preparation and drafting of donor reports and other performance reports, in particular with regard to Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD), Belgium, and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as well as the Paris Principles Steering Group (PPSG) technical validation meeting and the Children, Not Soldiers campaign.
- Support to advocacy and Child Protection fundraising strategy.
- Performs other duties as required, including back-up support to various global inter-agency initiatives as required.
Timeframe:
The duration of the assignment is from 15 July – 31 December 2015.
Key competences, technical background, and experience required:
- University degree in social sciences or related technical field.
- At least 2 years of progressively responsible, professional work Junior-level experience in administrative support functions with a background in child protection in emergencies (conflict and/or disaster) and working in challenging contexts.
- Knowledge of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) humanitarian cluster approach.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English language. Another UN language us desirable
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Global child protection advocacy and donor reporting.
