This position is full-time, nonexempt, classified and covered as defined by The Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.
Hours are 8:00 am – 4:30 pm and as needed; overtime as required
The Permit Specialist works under the direction of the Senior Permit Specialist to issue building permits and licenses and collect appropriate fees.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Issues building permits and licenses providing excellent customer service.
- Answers incoming telephone calls, responds to inquirers and/or routes caller to appropriate person or department.
- Assists with license renewal of contractors.
- Posts permit numbers to packets and purges packets for microfilm and files.
- Calculates and collects appropriate fees.
- Maintains the cash drawer and sorts mail.
- Monitors state releases for commercial projects.
- Assists with other projects as needed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.
Minimum Requirements and Working Conditions
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED and at least one year experience with computer skills, customer service, and bookkeeping
- Strong computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft Office and other job related software
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to use various office equipment including scanning equipment, multi-line phone, copier and two-way radio
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Permit Specialist works in a standard office environment with the ability to move around requiring frequent sitting, some bending and kneeling. Frequent typing including proofreading and attention to detail is required.
