The Indianapolis Public Library is currently seeking a Computer Lab Assistant II to work full-time at our E. 38th Street Branch location. Under general supervision, the Computer Lab Assistant II monitors public use of the Computer lab and performs a variety of clerical and technical tasks in support of this service and other services at the library. Computer Lab Assistants provide help to patrons with the basics in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and use of the Internet. May develop and present classes covering similar topics in the usage of PCs and basic digital literacy. The schedule for this position will vary, but will include days, evenings, and weekends. In addition, candidate will be required to work a set number of Sunday’s per year.


Essential Functions

> Monitor the Computer Lab. Troubleshoot basic computer technical problems.

> Handle patron’s questions and offer computer assistance.

> Order supplies as needed and maintain printer/equipment readiness.

> Process and shelve holds.

> Assist patrons with questions regarding library policies and services, analyze and make decisions regarding patron problems, using good and appropriate judgment.

> Accept and process all outgoing and incoming materials from patrons in a timely manner.

> Assist patrons with library card applications.

> Prepare cash drawer, including preparation of bank deposit. Accept payments for overdue, lost and damaged materials.

> Other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

> Some knowledge or training, six months to one year beyond the high school level.

> Some intermediate knowledge of computer functions


Preferred Qualifications

> Bilingual abilities a plus

> Experience with Microsoft Office 2010

> Previous library and/or customer service work experience

> Previous experience assisting others with computer and/ or software problems


Physical Requirements

This job requires frequent standing, lifting, and carrying of up to 20 pounds. May occasionally lift more than 20 pounds.
