CPS Energy is hiring 4 Distribution Trainees to work in our 3 Service Districts! The selected individual will be responsible for actively assisting Journeyman with construction and maintenance of overhead distribution equipment and system components.
The Distribution Trainee is an entry-level position with a line of progression leading to Distribution Journeyman. With assignments in Overhead Distribution line construction and maintenance, Meter and Service construction and maintenance, and URD construction and maintenance (Northwest, Eastside, Southwest). The Distribution Trainee will periodically rotate through the various Service Districts.
General duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assisting Journeyman with meter and service equipment and system components
- Assisting Journeyman with construction and maintenance of the URD equipment and system components
- Working around poles and steel structures, metering equipment, below ground vault transformers and pad-mount transformers, all of which are often energized
- Climbing Distribution poles and working on energized secondary conductors
- Attending assigned training classes and successfully completing the courses of instruction
- Successfully completing on-the-job training modules
The following qualifications are required for the position:
- A valid CDL in the State of Texas must be obtained within the first 90 days in the position
- Must pass a Reading Assessment to move forward in the hiring process
- Ability to climb distribution poles
- Ability to use hand tool and power tools
- Ability to lift/move heavy objects up to 100 pounds
- Ability to drive various size company vehicles (bucket trucks, construction vans, etc.)
- Ability to perform basic mathematics and measurement functions
- Ability to read, write, and understand verbal and written instructions
- Good oral communications skills
- Ability to successfully complete training classes (to include pole climbing certification and electrical courses)
- Ability to work overtime, call duty, and shift work when necessary
- Adhere to Drug and Alcohol testing per Department of Transportation regulations
The following qualifications are preferred but not required for the position:
- A valid CDL in the State of Texas
- General knowledge of basic electricity
- Knowledge of CPS job sketches and map symbology
- Previous electrical and/or construction work experience
- Knowledge of the CPS Distribution System and associated components
Pay: 18.41 per hour, non-negotiable
