What is the Global HIV Implementation Science Research Training Fellowship?
With support from the NIH (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases), ICAP has established the Global HIV Implementation Science Research Training Fellowship to prepare pre- and post-doctoral individuals for careers as independently-funded researchers and for leadership in global HIV implementation research. Pre-doctoral fellows are supported for a maximum of three years, and post-doctoral fellows are supported for a maximum of two years. This fellowship is part of ICAP’s Next Generation Program, a multidisciplinary training initiative that provides students with hands-on training opportunities in New York and around the world.
What does the Global HIV Implementation Science Research Training Fellowship offer?
Mentoring and research support. Fellows are matched with research mentors from a diverse pool of program faculty to advise them as they pursue domestic or international research projects related to HIV implementation science.
Didactic coursework in epidemiology and implementation science.Fellows engage in streamlined coursework based on an individualized training plan, developed in conjunction with the training coordinator and their research mentors.
Networking. Weekly faculty-fellow seminars provide opportunities for fellows to interact with HIV researchers and students from a variety of disciplines and research settings.
Assistance with grant writing and manuscript preparation. Fellows build skills in grant writing and manuscript preparation through instruction, by reviewing colleagues’ work, and by working directly with their research mentors during field placements.
Stipends. Pre-doctoral fellows receive $22,920 annually and post-doctoral fellows receive $42,840-48,192, depending on experience.
Tuition, fees, and health insurance. Pre-doctoral fellows receive $16,000 annually for tuition and fees; post-doctoral fellows receive $4,500. All fellows receive funds to cover health insurance.
Funds for travel and research-related supplies. Fellows receive an allowance for travel to a scientific meeting or field placement, with additional funds available to support research activities as needed.
Who should apply for the Global HIV Implementation Science Research Training Fellowship?
We will have openings for two post-doctoral fellows beginning September 1, 2016. Recent doctoral graduates with a strong interest in HIV implementation science research who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents should apply for this training fellowship.
