United States of America: Knowledge Management Intern


JOB SUMMARY:


The Knowledge Management Intern will support the KM/MER team to ensure that globally EngenderHealth staff has access to up to date and relevant information related to EngenderHealth’s work. The intern will also review current practices and develop recommendations for archiving and storing organizational knowledge and resources. The position can range from 14 to 29 hours per week.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Review current literature in key peer-reviewed journals and write summaries and programmatic implications of new research findings

  • Support EngenderHealth global staff in the development and revision of knowledge products

  • Synthesize key documents for knowledge sharing among New York and field based staff

  • Assist in creation of strategies and templates for knowledge sharing

  • Assist with reviewing and documenting processes and recommend future actions to improve access to relevant knowledge

  • Assist with reviewing existing internal repositories for knowledge and develop recommendations for improving systems and processes

  • Provide support to the development of strategies for archiving and storing knowledge products, programmatic documents, and other resources, under the guidance of the Senior Program Associate

  • Provide support to the development and review of posters and presentations for conferences

  • Other duties as assigned

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:


· Gain a better understanding of the relevant literature regarding family planning, maternal health, reproductive health, etc.


· Gain a better understanding of challenges related to institutional learning and strategies to address those challenges


· Hone writing skills for different audiences, including for non-native English speakers


· Gain practical experience at an international global health organization and deepen skills in collaboration and coordination within such an organization


· Understand the challenges and complexities of developing products for external dissemination


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:


  • Current graduate student

  • Preferred focus on public health, global health, international development, library sciences, knowledge management, or related field of study.

  • Work/internship experience in communications, social media, library sciences, or knowledge management

  • Work/internship experience in public health, global health, or international development

  • Experience working in low-resource and/or cross-cultural settings

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Interest in global health, reproductive health, maternal health, and/or family planning

  • Interest in knowledge management, organizational learning, and/or research

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize medical and social science literature

  • Ability to write succinctly

  • Intellectual curiosity

  • Knowledge of SharePoint a plus but not required

  • Fluency in French a plus but not required

KEY DELIVERABLES AND TIMELINE:


  • Synthesis of two-three key articles or key knowledge products (internal and external) for sharing with EngenderHealth staff, bi-weekly

  • Two to three targeted annotated bibliographies of topics relevant to EngenderHealth projects (determined in consultation with EngenderHealth staff during the first two weeks of internship), ongoing

  • Supported revision of two to three key knowledge products (determined by pipeline of products being developed and revised during internship), ongoing

  • Supported revision of two to three evaluation or research study protocols or concept notes, including data collection instruments (determined by project need and pipeline of evaluation and research studies), ongoing

  • Supported review of two to three poster or oral presentations (determined by staff need and timing of conferences), ongoing

  • Excel-based (or similar) catalogue of EngenderHealth knowledge products including relevant metadata, by the end of the internship

  • Must be comfortable and respectful of EngenderHealth’s programming that promotes women’s rights, gender equality, sexual diversity and LGBTQ rights
