Work Schedule: Three days on three days off – 12 hour shifts (Exact days will change in rotation with other night dispatcher)
Position Summary
The Dispatcher provides telecommunication support to the Department of Campus Safety and Security. The Dispatcher is responsible for the control and direction of incoming and outgoing telephone calls, directing after-hours maintenance request, monitoring campus alarms, dispatching officers to incidents, radio communication management, and customer service support. The Dispatcher also utilizes dispatch software in order to monitor foot traffic and assist in the generation of incident reports.
Essential Functions
Receive incoming calls for security services, obtain all vital information relevant to the request of the call, determine the priority of the call, dispatch or direct call to appropriate personnel, and monitor progress of dispatched Officers.
Maintain a calm, polite, positive, and professional demeanor while communicating with all constituencies.
Responsible for viewing and monitoring the video surveillance television monitors for unauthorized access and/or unsafe actions.
Documents security service requests and progress in an electronic records management/dispatch system.
Prepares all necessary reports in a timely manner.
Monitors College radio frequencies, security alarms, fire alarms, and weather alerts and notifies Officers on duty.
Assist with communication by making outgoing calls to emergency services, supervisors, and external stakeholders when necessary.
Provide administrative support the Campus Safety Department (e.g. process access control requests).
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be 21 years of age
Willingness to obtain Basic First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
Must be able to perform and meet the physical demands required in this position (i.e., sit for long periods of time)
Must be competent with computerized information systems and be able to accurately type reports using reporting software
Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills
Education
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required, some college preferred.
Possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and be able to obtain vehicle insurance.
