Summary
Nascent Solutions (Nascent) seeks a dynamic, self-starting international development professional to lead program management of its portfolio and contribute to business development initiatives.
Nascent’s flagship project is ALIGN (Advancing Literacy through Good Nutrition), a three-year, USDA-funded education and child nutrition project in the Northwest Region of Cameroon. The incumbent will manage ALIGN as well as smaller projects, primarily in Cameroon, Uganda, and Zambia.

Travel: Approximately 20% international travel; minimal domestic travel outside of the Washington, DC area
Reporting: Directly to CEO and President
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management (50%)
· Provide project management leadership and technical support across Nascent’s portfolio
· Ensure implementation of programs align with annual work plan and budget
· Conduct field visits to plan and implement programs
· Support technical preparation of donor reports throughout program cycle
· Build capacity of field staff by assessing and addressing project management training needs
· Ensure that relevant monitoring and evaluation systems are being utilized as intended, with support from M&E staff
· Synthesize research on technical areas, especially within the education sector
Business Development (50%)
· Conduct research on thematic areas and geographic locales to foster evidence-based program design
· Work collaboratively to deliver high quality narratives for grant proposals
· Contribute to Nascent’s ongoing, long-term strategic planning efforts
· Develop partnerships with other organizations in order to expand Nascent’s reach
· Stay informed on best practices in developing country education, including major funders and implementing organizations
Skills and Attributes
· Minimum bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline; Master’s degree preferred
· 3+ years of international development experience in developing countries, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa, and preferably in the education sector
· 1+ year of experience in multi-sectoral proposal writing and business development strategy
· Highly self-motivated and autonomous; ability to work with little guidance
· Ability to thrive in an informal, dynamic culture and be comfortable with ambiguity
· Experience supervising and mentoring people of various ability levels
· Knowledge of and network within the international development community
· Willingness and ability to undertake a broad range of tasks as is necessary in a small organization
· Willingness to undertake occasional international travel to rural African settings
· Ability to communicate effectively in cross-cultural teams
· Technical expertise in the education sector a big plus
· French language ability a plus
Work Conditions
The Program Manager will be based in Alexandria, VA with occasional visits to project sites in Africa. This position is expected to work 40 hours per week.
