Operations Supervisor - Associated Terminals LLC - New Orleans, LA


POSITION TITLE: Operations Supervisor


POSITION SUMMARY: Within the general cargo operation, the Operations Supervisor will establish and maintain gangs into set gang structures dependent on operational needs, as well as overseeing time keeping systems.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


Create and post daily schedule for all general cargo employees (Company and Casual)Create and build gang structure consisting of leadman, foreman, and laborers (4)


  • Assign operators to gangs dependent on operational needs

  • Acts as first contact for general cargo employees when issues arise

  • Manage Time Keeping system and build hours based on employee and company need

  • Manage General Cargo Boom cards

  • Manage employee schedules to account for absentees and ensure efficient operation

  • Prescreen General Cargo applicants on an as needed basis.

  • Responsible for write-ups and assisting in incident investigation

  • Operate general cargo equipment on an as- needed basis

  • Enforces Company Safety policies and procedures for all activities aboard the assigned vessel as well as within the general cargo facilities

  • Performs other operational duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


At least 3-5 year of experience in operations in a stevedoring or maritime industry
Must have experience with Break Bulk and Project Cargoes
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


High school graduate or equivalent education and experience preferred. Equipment certification may be required.


SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:


  • Experience in a similar position in an industrial setting (preferred)

  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously;

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;

  • Ability to perform applicable operation activities;

  • Ability to administer operational policies and procedures;

  • Ability to develop analyze applicable operation reports;

  • Ability to work in a team environment and with other Managers and Supervisors;

  • Ability to investigate and resolve operation problems;

  • Ability to work extended hours, including holidays, weekends, and rotating shifts as needed;

  • Ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations;

  • PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); and other applicable applications is preferred;

  • Must possess strong communication skills (verbal and written) in order to provide and receive direction.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Industrial environment and will be subject to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and loud noises.


This position will be required to perform duties at various worksites including docks and mid-stream locations.


Incumbent will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot-cool/cold as well as occasional rain. Will work at different elevations, noise levels will be moderate-high. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical nature of the work will vary from day to day based on operational needs; however the job will require the incumbent to be able to perform: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Incumbent will also be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: Hard Hat, eyewear, safety vests, gloves, masks/ respirators (when necessary) and steel-toe boots.


Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/ or in excess of 50 lbs. frequently, and/ or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
