Responsibilities include patrolling assigned city areas and responding to calls for service; issuing citations for observed equipment, registration and parking violations; operating assigned vehicle and a variety of equipment, ensuring equipment is functional and up to code; identifying vehicles meeting certain California Vehicle Code requirements making them subject to towing; preparing and maintaining related notices, records and documents; and performing other duties as assigned. There is currently one (1) vacancy and two (2) anticipated vacancies in the Public Safety Department effective 07/1/16.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of: standard English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; modern office systems, procedures and computer equipment; research and investigative methods; basic principles and practices of parking enforcement; pertinent codes and rules; and principles and practices of work safety. In addition, he/she must be able to: interact with the public in a courteous and tactful manner; learn police procedures, radio use and codes; and learn the geography and streets of the City.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Requirements include graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by college course work with an emphasis in the enforcement of public laws or guidelines, conducting public inspections and/or complaint investigations. A minimum of one year of experience working in a security, law enforcement, high public contact and/or customer service environment. Current certification, or the ability to obtain a California Peace Officer Standards and Training ( P.O.S.T.) 832 p.c. certificate within six months, and a valid California driver’s license with an excellent driving record are also required. An Associate’s degree is preferred.

BENEFITS:
ANNUAL VACATION: All full time employees are eligible for two weeks paid vacation after one year of employment; one additional day of vacation is earned each year thereafter to a maximum of four weeks paid vacation after 10 years of continuous employment.
HOLIDAYS: The City recognizes twelve holidays each year, plus 18 hours floating holiday, which can be taken at the employee’s discretion.
SICK LEAVE: Employees are credited with eight hours of sick leave for each month of service, with unlimited accumulation.
LONG TERM DISABILITY: After the expiration of 30 calendar days, a long-term disability plan provides a 60% disability income benefit.
LIFE INSURANCE: All employees are entitled to receive $100,000 life insurance coverage or 1 x annual salary, whichever is greater.
HEALTH INSURANCE: The City provides all employees with a $1,200 monthly contribution for medical, dental, and vision insurance for themselves and their dependents. City contribution towards Retiree Health Savings account.
RETIREMENT: Retirement benefits are provided under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) 2% @ 60 or 2% @ 62 formula based upon successful candidate’s PERS status. The City does not participate in Social Security, both the City and employee contribute 1.45% to Medicare.
OTHER BENEFITS: Tuition reimbursement, 457 Deferred Compensation plan, 9/80 schedule, Employee Assistance Program, direct deposit and credit union are available.
