The International Nutrition Specialist (Internal Title: Research Food and Agriculture Specialist 3) will contribute to the development and expansion of an RTI-wide strategic initiative in food security and agriculture, with a goal to expand RTI’s portfolio domestically and internationally. This position is a unique opportunity for a professional seeking an opportunity to participate in strategic portfolio growth, design and implementation for nutrition, food security and agriculture. The Successful candidate will sit within the International Development Group (IDG) and must have knowledge of the international development landscape and the capacity to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with clients and project staff including non-technical audiences. Candidates should be knowledgeable about trends in nutrition programming among priority donors.
The position will require up to 20% international and/or domestic travel and will be based in Washington, DC.
Essential Duties:
- Develop programmatic strategies and activities within the nutrition, agriculture and food security sector, including contributing to the development of technical approaches and tools.
- May act as a Project Manager and/or Project Coordinator in support of moderately complex food security, agriculture, and economic development projects.
- Manage and provide technical assistance and program support to project and program portfolio in given technical area of expertise. This may include field-based, short-term technical assistance.
- Lead or contribute to the development of technical proposals, concept notes, and expressions of interest.
- Contribute to other business development activities which may include capture, partner identification and development, Salesforce updates or other related tasks.
- Collaborate with key sector partners, donors, consultants, host country counterparts and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with colleagues across RTI on technical, administrative, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Develop project abstracts, briefs and accomplishment summaries.
- Conduct research and literature reviews; contribute to technical research and development in the sector.
- Lead and/or contribute to the development of publishable technical articles, papers, reports.
- Contribute to presentations, seminars and workshops on key international nutrition, food security, and agricultural development topics
Qualifications
Master’s degree in nutrition, epidemiology, public health, or related discipline. Minimum of 9 years of relevant work experience, including designing, implementing, and leading nutrition programs and research, particularly focused on women and children. Experience in or knowledge of recent research and developments in the linkages between agriculture and nutrition a plus.
- Knowledge and experience in nutrition program implementation and/or research in low or middle income countries.
- Knowledge of prominent international nutrition programs and actors.
- Knowledge of international food security issues and indicators.
- Knowledge and experience providing technical and management leadership to complex projects.
- Knowledge and experience managing USAID and/or DFID-funded projects or other key donors in international development sector.
- Ability to lead development of technical proposals and reports.
- Knowledge and experience in the latest research, methodologies, and technological developments in international nutrition.
- International field experience in management of nutrition or infant and young child feeding programs.
- Experience in mentoring and/or supervising staff.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently and within matrix project and program teams.
