The International Network for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR-Net) is
seeking a Part-Time Communications Assistant to work in its New York City secretariat
office.
ESCR-Net is the largest network of groups and individuals from around the world
working to secure economic and social justice through human rights with over 270
members in 70 countries. ESCR-Net seeks to strengthen the field of all human rights,
with a special focus on economic, social and cultural rights, and further develop the tools
for achieving their promotion, protection and fulfillment. By facilitating joint actions,
enhancing communications and building solidarity between members, the network seeks
to build a global movement to make human rights and social justice a reality for all. For

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Reporting to the Communications Coordinator, this position will involve strategically
using communications to advance ESCR-Net objectives in close conversation with other
Secretariat staff and ESCR-Net members.
The position will provide particular support to the development of English-language
communication actions, with a strong focus on strengthening video and visual content, as
well as on social media and interactive online content.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Communications
o Produce and edit compelling, regularly-updated website content
o Update social media to produce relevant, fresh content
o Ensure editing, translation, design and dissemination of regular
publications, including bi-monthly newsletter and annual report
o Support media relations work,
o Support the development of multi-lingual webinars
Video Making and Graphic Design
o Edit periodic videos to strengthen collective ESCR-Net advocacy,
campaigns or events
o Produce periodic info graphics or visual content to promote ESCR-Net
member activities and collective work
o Support the development of ESCR-Net’s style guide and apply coherent
graphic guidelines for all publications, including reports, newsletters,
mailings, etc.
Other tasks as required
QUALIFICATIONS | REQUIRED:
• Excellent written and editing skills in English;
• Proficiency and experience utilizing design software;
• Proficiency and experience utilizing video editing software;
• Experience handling media and communications for a human rights or social
justice organization;
• Experience utilizing social media, including to strategically advance awareness or
advocacy of social justice issues, promote events, facilitate learning, or similar
efforts;
• Attention to detail and ability to multi-task, work independently and work
comfortably in a small, collegial office environment; and
• Commitment to advancing human rights and social justice, including gender
analysis and a culture of inclusion.
QUALIFICATIONS | DESIRABLE:
• Proficiency in French preferred
• Knowledge of Spanish and/or Arabic
• Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field and at least three years
of relevant experience; or an unrelated bachelor’s degree and at least five
years of relevant experience
• Experience in public relations or media advocacy
• Experience working with international media sources
• Experience in cross-cultural communication
HOURS AND LOCATION:
This position will be based at the office of ESCR-Net’s Secretariat (near Grand Central
Station, New York City). The normal working hours of the office are from 9/10am –
5/6pm, Monday through Friday.
As this is a part-time position, the schedule is negotiable.

COMPENSATION:
The Communications Coordinator is a part-time position with benefits, including partial
medical, dental and vision coverage and generous vacation and paid leave. Pay is
commensurate with experience and comparable to similar NGOs.
