Business Development Manager - Builders Merchant (26721026)




We are recruiting an experienced Business Development Manager for our client who is a large independent builders’ merchant. They are looking to recruit an experienced hands-on Business Development Manager to work as part of a busy sales team. They are now looking to expand the sales team and take on a further candidate from a builders’ merchant background.


The ideal candidate would need to have excellent industry knowledge and relevant product knowledge for the position. This is the ideal role for an experienced sales person, looking to develop their career within a highly successful company.


As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for developing sales of the company’s building/plumbing materials within the Hertfordshire area, and will be tasked with generating new business, as well as managing a portfolio of existing customers. You will report to the Sales Director.


£45,000 per annum + Bonus of up to 10% & Car


Core Responsibilities:


  • Promote and secure orders from existing and prospective customers

  • Manage customer accounts within designated territory

  • Develop customer relationships through direct contact

  • Meet and exceed identified sales targets

  • Meet and exceed gross margin expectations

  • Plan and organize territory in accordance with company expectations

  • Capitalise on sales opportunities

  • Provide support to Branch Managers on sales enquiries

  • Manage customers’ expectations

  • Provide detailed reports on all sales activities

  • Operate in an ethical manner at all times

  • Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the company

  • Participate in customer trade days as and when required

  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers’ representatives on customer-related matters

  • Report on competitor activity.

Qualifications:


  • Educated to A Level standard

  • Evidence of training and development in sales

  • A minimum of three years’ sales experience in the same or similar industry

  • Evidence of past successes in the same or similar role

  • A driving license.
