Summary of Role:
Under the guidance of the Head of Procurement, the role holder is responsible for some aspects of strategic third party manufacturing spend with key accountabilities for ensuring that contracts are in place, up to-date and managed effectively. These procurement activities are conducted in a manner compliant with regulatory requirements to ensure that all goods and services are at delivered at optimum cost, whilst mitigating risk delivered to customers on time and to the required quality standard in a manner compliant with regulatory requirements.
Role specific duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for some aspects of procurement activity associated with third party contract manufacturers, in particular managing the contracts and / or supply agreements.
- To manage third party contract (Supplier) manufacturer relationships in a strategic manner to ensure continuity of supply and ensure commercial terms are suitable for the long term aims of Martindale Pharma
- Accountability for day to day purchasing activities ensuring that customer needs are delivered in a timely manner
- Achieve best value for money on all third party manufacturing services and reduce the cost of procurement process, ensuring continuous improvement
- Implement strategic procurement projects that will provide the greatest opportunity to improve service levels and generate procurement savings
- Encourage a competitive and varied supply market and apply best practice tools and techniques to analyse spend and gain maximum strategic and tactical advantage
- Promote supplier relationship management and actively engage with key suppliers to address issues and identify potential opportunities to further develop collaboration and deliver continuous improvement of supplier performance (e.g. Costs, Service and Quality)
- Implement agreed SLA and contract terms with all key suppliers and develop key supplier performance measures and reporting that will be used to monitor both supplier and Martindale Pharma performance
- To provide full and appropriate procurement input to NPD projects and ensure that a robust supply chain is in place from initial launch to long term security of supply
- Development of procurement capabilities to ensure that all current and future requirements can be met
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
- Degree in an appropriate subject is desirable
- Preferably a member of CIPS (or equivalent) or studying towards

Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing based organisation in a strategic procurement role, preferably within pharmaceuticals or similar industry
- Must have direct experience of sourcing and managing third party contracts/manufacturing organisations
- Demonstrable experience of using analytical data to determine supply and commercial opportunities
- Must be able to demonstrate approach towards risk mitigation and cost of goods improvement
- Experience of managing effective supplier relationships, buying & selling
- Proven record of developing and implementing sustainable business-changing strategies to deliver savings to the business
- Experience of procurement, managing tenders, supplier selection and contract development within the pharmacy sector
- Proven ability to meet internal & external customer needs
