Knowledge Exchange Specialist | ReliefWeb - 2015


The Knowledge Exchange Specialist is an integral member of the Center for Pharmaceutical Management (CPM) Communications and Knowledge Exchange Unit and contributes to the development and implementation of CPM’s communications and knowledge management strategy and support to Center projects. S/he will assist in managing content and technology for online communications and collaboration, layout/formatting for hardcopy printed material and procurement tracking for external communications consultants. The Knowledge Exchange Specialist provides online platform support for web sites, intranets and Google applications, digital file management services including policy and guidance, desktop publishing and publications support, and management of consultant services procurement for CPM and its projects. Tasks include the production of publications, reports, online communications materials and training manuals. In addition, s/he will be responsible for tracking communications procurement actions and occasional event management and logistics in coordination with Program Associates and technical teams.


Specific Responsibilities:


Participate in program knowledge management activities focused on content management and online platforms: 40%


Online platforms, Social Media and Communications: S/he will work with the communications team in providing technical support and publishing for social media to increase CPM’s visibility and advance its communications and learning priorities. Responsibilities include:


  • Provide in-house systems support, training and user help for communications and collaboration platforms, such as Google Applications and MSH’s Intranet platform, to build capacity throughout the Center and field offices.

  • Provide leadership and guidance on file management policies on shared drives and as part of Google Drive migrations.

  • Work with the communications team to strengthen the use of social media including Twitter, Facebook, blog accounts and websites

  • Assist with digital asset management and content curation to assure platforms and repositories are kept up to date and accessible. Includes support to both formal systems such as library catalogues and ad hoc data and file management with Google Applications and network file storage

Participate in the development and support the design of project deliverables: 30%


Editorial: S/he is responsible for supporting design and layout of select CPM and project communications materials to promote knowledge sharing about Center and project capabilities and results. Responsibilities include:


  • Applying advanced functions of MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and supporting software to design, structure and format reporting and communications products including templates, reports, power points, brochures and newsletters.

  • Work with the editorial group to create and maintain information graphics and reference documents including technical illustrations, guidelines, glossaries and style manuals.

Assist in the implementation of program management activities including procurement tracking: 30%


Program management: S/he is responsible for managing the procurement process in coordination with MSH procurement and accounting departments for communications consultants including editors, writers and designers.
Responsibilities include:


  • Coordinate with the CPM Senior Editor in developing scopes of work and candidate selection.

  • Submit required information into the MSH procurement tracking system.

Monitor procurement and accounting actions for consultant services and trouble shoot if issues arise.


Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree


Three (3) to five (5) years professional work experience in communications, knowledge management/information management, editorial services, design, or similar field.


Knowledge and Skills:


  • Strong working knowledge of online platforms and social media, and proven ability in applications such as Google Applications, WordPress, and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with desktop publishing applications including Adobe Creative Suite highly desirable. Photography skills very helpful.

  • Experience with online procurement management and accounting systems desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong, effective professional relationships, to work well independently and as part of a team

  • Experience with international development and the health sector desirable.

  • Ability to maintain a flexible work manner and schedule.

Competencies:


  • Understanding of core knowledge management principles on adopting, adapting, and applying knowledge to work more effectively;

  • Ability to assess priorities, work gracefully under pressure with multiple deadlines, and manage projects through to their successful completion with attention to detail and quality

  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and time management skills. Must be able to problem solve.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work proactively and independently.

  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills.

  • Ability to maintain a flexible work manner and schedule

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Keyboard use, pulling drawers, lifting papers <10 lbs., travel requirements.
