Police Administrative Support Specialist provides support for Tacoma Police Department personnel and performs a wide variety of complex duties in an assigned division of the Tacoma Police Department. An employee in this classification must possess excellent oral and writing skills; have the ability to handle multiple priorities at once; be proficient with Microsoft Office Software and excellent customer service skills. Some assignments also require transcription and exposure to a varied and high stress work environment. Police Administrative Support Specialists are exposed to highly sensitive and confidential information. An employee in this position will be required to maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times. Candidates must possess an exemplary personal history. A background investigation and polygraph examination will be conducted. Failure to be truthful throughout the recruitment process will result in immediate removal from the process. Those who meet the minimum qualifications will be sent an additional e-mail with a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). The PHQ will need to be scanned and e-mailed back to the e-mail address as listed on the PHQ. Following process and rules are integral to the Police Department. Failure to follow directions and/or submit all required materials will result in disqualification from the process. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and pass the initial (PHQ) process will be notified by e-mail of the date, time and location of the written exam. Applicants must pass all portions of the exam to be placed on the eligible list for interview and hiring consideration. Please Note: The written exam will be conducted on April 8, 2015. Individuals given a conditional offer of employment will be required to pass a background investigation, polygraph examination and a pre-employment medical examination that will include a drug screening. New employees must successfully complete a twelve-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification. This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and Local 117. An employee in this position will be required to join the union within 30 days of hire.
