Registered Nurse (Quality Improvement Coordinator) Ann Arbor, MI Duties: The incumbent is responsible for utilizing a comprehensive, organized, continuous readiness program to review and identify opportunities for improvement in order to achieve excellence in the quality and safety of the care, treatment, and services provided to patients. Incumbent assists in developing processes to assure that all required information is procured and acted upon to meet the expectations of the patients, the facility, The Joint Commission, VA Central Office, Office of Inspector General, VISN, or other internal and external organizations. The incumbent assists the Service Leadership and ensures quality improvement processes are in place, including but not limited to PDSA cycles, follow-up action is conducted, and outcomes are reported that support current systems redesign processes. When required, the incumbent conducts reviews to evaluate compliance with program regulations, policies, and procedures and assists with the development of facility policies and procedures, as appropriate. Assists in developing approaches for standardizing system related procedures to minimize variation. The incumbent supports facility activities in the coordination and development of data collection and analysis techniques to evaluate quality improvement projects. Incumbent is knowledgeable of systems redesign principles, statistical processes, and tools including trend and comparative analyses and has the expertise to make recommendations based on findings. The incumbent reviews all quality improvement data for assigned areas and assists responsible staff in initiating/facilitating appropriate action based on VA guidance documents. The incumbent facilitates education of personnel related to the quality improvement activities as needed . The incumbent conducts various patient care studies based on areas assigned, including review of patient incident reports, medical record reviews for evidence of required documentation as well as reviews for the quality and safety of care, treatment, and services provided. The incumbent provides clinical expertise and consultation to assist in data driven decision making and quality improvement matters. The incumbent conducts tracers and operational assessments, participates in the design and analysis of special studies to define the cause and scope of issues or trends, and assists in the identification of appropriate criteria for problem resolution. Analysis includes monitoring, tracking, and trending along with other statistically valid techniques to assist in focusing program efforts. The incumbent participates in the development of innovative approaches to the establishment, enhancement, modification, and/or improvements in a variety of facility programs related to quality improvement Preferred Qualifications : Quality Management experience, Joint Commission Life Safety and Environment of care experience preferred. MSN preferred. Physical Requirements : This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
Tour of Duty: 8: 00 a.m.
to 4: 30 p.m. (Monday – Friday) Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
