This position is responsible for the daily processing of all Duke Energy mail-in customer payments. Effectively handles all functions associated with the processing of these payments to ensure prompt and accurate posting to customer accounts, and to ensure company funds are deposited timely and accurately.
Job Responsibilities
Mail preparation and Mail extraction performed to enhance the speed of opening/extracting envelope contents
– Accurately sort mail according to remittance type such as residential, commercial and delinquent.
Utilize OPEX Eagle High-speed Mail Extraction and Imaging machine to open and capture the image of documents.
Utilize OPEX Unit 51 mail extraction machine to manually open out sorted envelopes and exception mail.
Utilize BancTec E-Series Transport Imaging machine to capture image of documents.
Utilize OPEX Model 206 mail opener.
Prepare for Image processing
– Prepare out sorted envelopes and exception mail from OPEX Unit 51 to be imaged on a BancTec E-Series Transport system.
– Ensure consistent accuracy between the customer bill documents and the remittance advice documents.
Verify numerical data that has been captured through the imaging systems and verified through the CAR/LAR (character amount read/legal amount read) software but must be manually keyed for accuracy.
Exception Process & Research
– Perform manual entries into Cash Drawer systems.
– Process Agency payments
– Process Customer Contribution payments.
– Process payments for Accounts Receivables which include deposits, charge off and reconnect fees.
– Research out-of balance payments.
– Contact others in the company to obtain data or documents to resolve discrepancies.
Miscellaneous Accountabilities
– Train others in the operation of equipment or job functions.
– Remain abreast of new process/procedures required to perform job related tasks.
– Remain abreast of any required company-wide or department training.
– Provide guidance to other employees in the use of computer applications/information technology.
– Verify completeness of transmittals/documentation.
– Open, date and distribute mail and other documents to work unit.
– Maintain adequate inventory of supplies for work unit.

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Demonstrated ability to proficiently utilize various types of office equipment such as telephone, personal computer, printer, photocopier, scanner, calculator, adding machine, fax machine, shredder, etc.

Ability to lift mail trays, push mail carts and large recycling bins
Two years directly related work experience.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
