Position Summary: The Officer will use all forms of media and communications to build, maintain and manage awareness of RI"s work. The Officer will be expected to help create and communicate key messages to define target audiences in order to establish and maintain goodwill for RI.
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Communication
- Coordinate Internal and External communications
- Assist with Public Engagement and fundraising initiatives
- Support departmental needs
- Maintain communications with and procure program updates and “success stories” from field teams
- Build online presence with content creation and regular updates to RI website, social media channels and other online outlets
- Support media relations, public engagement and marketing initiatives such as online advertising, speakers bureau, spokesperson research and media outreach
- Assist with development of promotional materials, including Annual Report, press kits and other program-related collateral
- Support fundraising campaigns, event planning and management
- Identify promotional opportunities that are both strategic and creative
- Develop collateral and promotional materials for fundraising campaigns, events and other opportunities
- Assist with additional duties as needed
Social Media
- Own all relevant social media platforms to generate brand growth and positive sentiment for the organization, as well as being tasked with creating new, innovative and talk-worthy content to drive awareness and engagement
- Produce online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action
- Develop and implement a strategic social media/marketing/communications plan to advance Relief International’s brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities and increase the visibility of its programs across key audiences
- Develop and implement integrated social media strategy to achieve goals including: traffic generation, donor base growth, community activation, positive sentiment, exposure, etc.
- Coordinate with other departments to lead execution of integrated social media fund raising campaigns
- Recommend new social media tools, sites, and applications as part of the social media mix

Branding
- Develop and implement a strategic communications plan to advance Relief International"s brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities and increase the visibility of its programs across key audiences
- Serve as social media editor-in-chief and social media "brand voice"–set guidelines in line with industry best practices for social media and share those guidelines with all contributors retaining final sign-off/approval of all posts
- Develop social media policies, best practices, and contributor training programs to ensure Relief International meets or exceeds industry best practices and advances its brand goals
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: This position demands a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA in marketing, communications, international relations or other related field
- Two years of relevant work experience with demonstrated skills and interest in communications and public relations, preferably with experience in the non-profit arena
- Excellent writing skills and proven ability to write copy and support development of public relations materials including pitch letters, newsletters, press releases, quotes, fact sheets, speeches, reports, etc. in addition to creating content for website
- Ability to deliver compelling presentations using data and metrics by using effective storytelling to communicate insights
- Proficiency using a variety of social media channels is imperative
- Experience developing communications materials, including success stories, marketing materials, such as newsletters
- Experience in working in an international environment, respecting different cultures and nationalities
- Experience using photography and/or video footage for effective communications
- Experience in developing and implementing communications strategies
- Experience using design and publication software
- Experience with branding
- Previous media relations experience and proven ability to cultivate relationships with regional and national press
- Previous experience in event coordination or management
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in demanding and fast paced environment, multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines and be flexible with changing needs in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Experience organizing around international development issues a plus
- Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and/or Illustrator a plus
- Ability to develop outside the box methods of visibility to maximize opportunities
- Ability to build relationships and be sensitive to communication and differences in dealing with people from diverse cultures based in multiple locations
- Excellent verbal, listening and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of marketing, social media and fund development techniques
- Computer experience essential with proficiency in word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software.

- Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output
- Flexibility, adaptability and openness to change
- In-depth understanding of social media platforms, their participants and their community dynamics [i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Linkedin, etc.) and how they can be used on a standalone or integrated basis in different scenarios.
- Ability to multi-task and handle many tasks at one time
- Creativity, able to develop innovative communication messages to promote RI and its programs
- Ability to distill key information and to edit content for multiple audiences
