Summary


Save the Children seeks an energetic and ambitious thought leader with significant experience in livelihoods, gender analysis, program design and fundraising. Working with food security and nutrition specialists, the Advisor will lead the development of a portfolio of innovative nutrition-sensitive programs. These programs will: (1) augment women’s bargaining power, (2) increase their access and control over income and assets, (3) improve their capacity to manage economic resources, and in doing so (4) enable them to ensure positive nutritional outcomes for their children


Global Program Strategy and Market Position


• Lead development of nutrition-sensitive livelihood strategies.

• Develop and sustain relationships with partners, academic institutions and donor agencies.

• Represent SC US on high-level meetings about gender pathways to food and nutritional security.


Technical Leadership for Quality Programming


  • Collaborate with specialists in gender, nutrition, behavior change, agriculture, and household livelihood security.

  • Monitor developments in the field of nutrition-sensitive programming.

  • Present technical advances and program results in the development community.

Resource Mobilization


  • Identify public and private fundraising opportunities.

  • Position the organization for competitive bids.

  • Lead development of high quality proposals.

  • Work with the Livelihoods team to develop long-term fundraising strategies, including identifying funding opportunities, making presentations to potential sponsors/donors, and leading the development of proposals with HO and COs.

Requirements


• Advanced degree required in a relevant social science – food security and livelihoods, gender, economics, etc.; Ph.D. desired.

• Advanced skills in developing and implementing gender strategies in food security and livelihoods programs in developing countries

• Innovative and visionary approach to gender programming

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in related development work required;

• Overseas experience required;

• Technical recognition beyond SC; and

• Significant experience dealing with public and private donors

• Successful fundraising track record


Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors


• Practical experience with concepts for incorporating gender strategies in agriculture and livelihoods programming;

• Team leadership skills;

• Knowledge of behavior change programming;

• Program design and proposal development experience, particularly with USAID;

• Excellent writing and communications skills in English;

• Solid proposal writing experience;

• Ability to travel and to work independently, even in harsh environments;

• Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and effectively work with multi-cultural teams; and

• Language skills a plus.
