Assistant Director, Public Relations


Reporting to the Senior Director of Public Relations, the Assistant Director will be responsible for carrying out a full range of regionally-focused communications and public relations activities, specifically focused on regional integration, UNICEF Kid Power and corporate partnership support. The ideal candidate will work to help expand awareness and support for USF and UNICEF’s mission, programs, events, partnerships and priorities in key markets across the country.


Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):


  • Spearheading communication efforts for USF in coordination with nine regional markets, including the development of communications and media plans.

  • Pitching regional media outlets and securing coverage that supports USF’s regional integration efforts and highlights national and regional campaigns, programs, corporate partnerships, spokespeople, board members and advocacy work on a local level. This includes discovery of local stories around priority USF campaigns including UNICEF Kid Power, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF and the UNICEF Tap Project.

  • Leading media outreach efforts around regional events, campaign/program media events, galas and fundraisers, in addition to staffing events and coordinating logistics on-site (e.g. red carpets, media attendees, on-site interviews, photographers, etc.).

  • Drafting regional communications materials for USF, including blog posts and web stories, op-eds, letters to the editor, talking points, messaging Q&As and more.

  • Review of marketing, communications and social media materials for regional partnerships.

  • Drafting, editing, routing, and distributing communications and press materials.

  • Conducting research, monitoring media coverage of priority issue areas, and identifying opportunities for pitching stories or placing op-eds and letters to the editor in key regional markets.

  • Building and updating regional press lists and keeping track of regional media placements.

  • Organizing and maintaining electronic files of UNICEF issue documents, reports, situation reports, key messages, etc.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of seven years of work experience in public relations, media relations, communications and/or journalism

  • Experience with regional media and events preferred

  • Superior written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve stated goals

  • Ability to multi-task with ease

  • Proficient on Excel and PowerPoint

  • Knowledge of fundraising a plus

Must possess current and valid US Work Authorization and be eligible to work for any US employer without sponsorship.
