Parks Worker - State of Minnesota - McCarthy Beach State Park, MN

This is a part-time, seasonal (80%)Parks Worker position, located at McCarthy Beach State Park in Side Lake, Minnesota near Togo. Approximate season dates are May 18th through September 4th, 2016. Work schedule varies and includes evenings, most weekends and holidays, with rotating work hours.

This position exists to provide information about McCarthy Beach State Park, other State Parks and the local area to park users and the general public. It will sell park vehicle permits, register campers and sell merchandise using the Recreation Dynamics program. Secondarily, this position is to perform day-to-day building and grounds maintenance duties at the park office and vicinity.


Responsibilities include:

– Greet the public, help them register; select campsites; sell vehicle permits, firewood, retail items, etc.

– Maintain and clean park administered facilities.

– Display, stock and sell Nature Store and park specific merchandise.

– Provide clerical assistance in keeping records of visitors usage, preparing correspondence and other typical office duties.

– Ensure safety in duties performed and support safety culture.


Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:
– Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees.


– Ability to provide written information and instructions to the public and other park employees.


– Experience with and knowledge of office equipment such as calculators, cash registers, POS systems, computers, printers, telephone systems and other office equipment.


– Arithmetic skills sufficient to accurately collect money from the public for various fees.


Preferred Qualifications:
– Computer skills (Microsoft Office: Including WORD, Excel, PowerPoint,

Outlook and Access)


– Record keeping skills


– Familiarity with Minnesota State Parks rules and regulations


– Experience with recreation dynamics


– Experience in Retail Sales/Customer Service (assisting customers with

returns, refunds, exchanges, etc.)


– Experience with grounds maintenance equipment, such as a riding lawn mower

and weed trimmer


– Experience working independently as well as with others.


Physical Requirements
Occasionally lifting articles such as 50 pound bags of feed maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.


Additional Requirements
*This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License with a clear driving record.*
