United States of America: Associate Director, Business Development


Since 1963 and in 146 countries, ACDI/VOCA has empowered people in developing and transitional nations to succeed in the global economy. Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development, and food security to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil societies. ACDI/VOCA has approximately 50 projects in 30 countries and total revenues of approximately $174 million.
We are seeking a D.C.-based Associate Director, Business Development who will be responsible for engaging in the design and delivery of competitive proposals within the Resilience & Growth (R&G) portfolio. This position will be involved in providing technical guidance across proposals, projects, and practice areas as well. This is a great mid-level opportunity for individuals who are interested in the capture, design, and management of proposals across a variety of donors.
Primary activities include, but are not limited to engaging with the Resilience and Growth (R&G) portfolio of new business opportunities based on the demands and priorities of the proposal processes and proposal team needs; managing proposal teams and contributing to the technical design process for multiple bids, depending on bid size, complexity, and strategic value; researching, analyzing, and planning for new funding opportunities; and providing business development skill and the capacity to guide and/or lead R&G proposal teams in opportunity analysis, capture planning, proposal preparation, proposal review, and after action review. In addition, this position will be responsible for supporting personnel recruitment, budget development, non-technical proposal writing, and/or editing/packaging as part of proposal teams; supporting R&G proposal teams in the identification of international partners and negotiation of ACDI/VOCA’s role on proposal consortia, ensuring a competitive position for ACDI/VOCA’s that adheres to organizational best practices and strategic direction; and supporting the Business Intelligence Unit to develop and maintain key relationships with donors, collaborating organizations, and private sector actors with an eye toward opportunity identification, shared value creation, strategic alliance formation, and global brand positioning.
Minimum qualifications are a Master’s degree in international development, agriculture, finance, economics, or other relevant field (additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of advanced degree). A minimum of five years’ of experience, including overseas work, in international development required – preferably within new business development. Fluency in English required; additional French and/or Spanish language skills are desired. The ability and willingness to travel internationally required.
