FHI 360 is currently seeking a dynamic leader to be Director of its Global Health, Population and Nutrition Business Unit. The preferred candidate should be a doctoral level professional, with a successful career in international public health, reproductive health, nutrition, or other health-related field. As a vital member of FHI 360’s senior leadership team, the Director will lead and manage the organization’s largest business unit with management responsibility for a diverse portfolio of activities, including 30 practice areas, including sexual and reproductive health; HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment; infectious and tropical diseases (e.g., TB, malaria, and others); health systems strengthening; health services research and implementation science; epidemiology, biostatistics; health economics; social and behavioral sciences; among others. The Director will lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of more than 500 professional located in US-based offices and in offices in more than 40 countries around the globe. The Director should be an action-oriented, doctoral level professional with a demonstrated ability to deliver results across a diverse portfolio of research and programs addressing some of the world’s most pressing public health issues
The Director of GHPN provides strategic direction and oversight for a complex and diverse portfolio of service delivery improvement, technical assistance, and research activities. The new leader must have a passion for global health and development, a commitment to scientific and technical excellence, and a keen interest in generating evidence to address key public health concerns. S/He will have full responsibility for managing the growth, strategy and development of GHPN. This will include liaising with leaders throughout the organization to plan for and secure new business and to manage ongoing sponsor/donor relationships. S/He will liaise with government agencies, local governments, private sector representatives, civil society leaders, foundation staff, and other stakeholders. Working through GHPN staff and in collaboration with the Finance, Contract Management and other Enterprise Service teams, the leader will ensure excellent program planning and financial management, effective program implementation and execution to drive growth across FHI 360’s health portfolio. The Director ensures accountability for research and program/project design and technical quality, compliance with relevant regulations and policies, and appropriate human and financial resources to fulfill the terms and conditions of awards within the portfolio. The Director must demonstrate effective communication and management skills. She/He will report to the Chief Operating Officer.
Job Summary / Responsibilities:
- Provides strategic leadership and oversight for all organizational operations in the Global Health, Population and Nutrition (GHPN) busienss unit
- Responsible for meeting business development targets and achieving departmental plans.
- Works with Department Directors and other Business Units to develop operational/ G&A budgets that support the organizations goals for the GHPN business unit.
- Manages budgets, staffing plans, revenue forecasting, and tracks financial expenditures.
- Works with groups to identify manage and mitigate organizational risk and ensure compliance with appropriate regulations and policies.
- Develops and/or monitors regional/sectoral landscape analyses, strategic plans, and oversees the approval of proposals, protocols, reports and budgets.
- Establishes, serves and maintains partnerships with internal and external stakeholders within the assigned portfolio to achieve strategic goals.
- Serves on various committees and teams both internal and external to the organization.
- Oversees management of staff, ensuring alignment with strategic and programmatic goals.
- Oversees and manages the Business Unit’s outreach and communication plans
- Directs effective and efficient project start-up and close-out for assigned projects.
- Provides leadership in emergency situations for assigned portfolio.
Travel Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 15+ years of international development experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing complex organizations that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope.
- Extensive experience leading and supervising large multidisciplinary teams in the US and other countries.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining client relationships across a variety of organizations includinggovernment agencies, local governments, private sector representatives, civil society leaders, foundation staff, and other stakeholders
- Experience managing financial and human resources.
- Able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
Education:
- Doctoral degree highly preferred
- Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent Required – Health, Nutrition, Behavioral, Life/Social Sciences International Development, Human Developmen Communications, Education, Environment, or Related Field.
- Clinical and/or public health research experience is an asset
