INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:
The Knowledge Management Intern will provide support to several ongoing knowledge management projects and support the implementation of new activities under the guidance of the Senior Program Associate, Knowledge Management. The KM Intern will support internal learning opportunities for staff to ensure they are up to date on the current literature, have access to internal and external resources, and are active participants in communities of practice and other knowledge sharing groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Regularly scan and analyze new literature relevant to EngenderHealth’s work to share key findings and analysis with clinical, technical, and programmatic staff.
- Write summaries and programmatic implications of new research findings
- Provide support for regular (monthly) journal clubs, including selection of relevant articles, development of discussion questions, and facilitating conversations.
- Coordinate communities of practice, KM working groups, and meetings of other internal groups
- Catalogue and archive technical publications, evaluation and research reports, internal knowledge products, and other materials according to internal standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
· Gain a better understanding of the relevant literature regarding family planning, maternal health, reproductive health, etc.
· Gain a better understanding of challenges related to institutional learning and strategies to address those challenges.
· Hone writing skills for different audiences, including for non-native English speakers
· Gain practical experience at an international global health organization and deepen skills in collaboration and coordination within such an organization.
KEY DELIVERABLES AND TIMELINE:
- Syntheses of relevant literature twice per month
- Monthly journal clubs
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Current graduate student, preferred focus on public health, global health, international development, library sciences, knowledge management, or related field of study.
- Work/internship experience in public health, global health, or international development
- Experience working in low-resource and/or cross-cultural settings
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize medical and social science literature
- Ability to write succinctly
- Intellectual curiosity
- Knowledge of SharePoint a plus but not required
- Fluency in French a plus but not required
- Must be comfortable and respectful of EngenderHealth’s programming that promotes women’s rights, gender equality, sexual diversity and LGBTQ rights.
