Examples of Duties:
Reception and Communications-
Greets visitors to Police Department; answers general questions and directs inquiries to proper party.
Answers telephone and transfers calls to proper extension.
Takes messages for personnel and relays to appropriate party.
Assists public with requested information both by phone and in person.
Clerical and Data Entry-
Retrieves and sorts completed reports from previous day.
Generates Law Incident Summary Report.
Matches call report with officer’s reports; sorts by crime (felony, misdemeanor and juvenile); copies and distributes to appropriate party.
Enters information from reports into computer data base.
Assigns Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) codes to reports according to state and federal standards.
Prepares and submits monthly reports as required and distributes to the appropriate party (i.e., Criminal Justice Center).
Generates monthly reports on warrants issued and tickets given.
Files all departmental reports and maintains files.
Retrieves information and files as needed.
Related Duties-
Maintains vending machines; collects money on a routine basis.
Maintains petty cash fund.
Receives and receipts money for accident and Incident/Offense reports.
Performs other related duties as required.
Reviews work completed by cadets and student workers.
Typical Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Must have valid Alabama Drivers License.
Must be U.S. citizen.
Experience in general secretarial and clerical work with knowledge of computers, data entry and word processing preferred.
Willing to work overtime occasionally, as needed.
Willing to cooperate in the work load of the department.
Willing to comply with City of Prattville policies, rules and procedures.
