JJS Technician II job - State of Utah - Carbon County, UT



Incumbents in this job either assist in planning programs for youth, counsel youth under supervision, and provide direct care, supervision, and control of youth in secure, multi-use and related facilities or work as monitors in the control room assisting the control room supervisor by making perimeter checks and monitoring visitors, residents and all facility areas. This is a working level job where incumbents work under moderate supervision with delinquent adolescents in short and long term secure confinement, observation and assessment settings, multi-use facilities or community based programs. Shift work may be required. High risks in this job include physical intervention with clients in order to deescalate hostile or volatile situations. Incumbents must successfully complete applicable training required by JJS policy during their probation period and remain current on all mandatory training established by JJS management. Non-compliance with training expectations may be grounds for termination.


Example of Duties:


  • Oversees delinquent youth in group settings, individual encounters, visitations and community involvement activities.

  • Schedules activities and resolves potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and or the public.

  • Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials.

  • Coordinates and refers services of community resources, placement providers, collateral agencies, the court, and/or other community partners with families, clients, or patients receiving services.

  • identify and apply appropriate security, safety, and/or control intervention techniques or devices to secure people, facilities, property, supplies or equipment

  • agency and community resources and services

  • standards of care and supervision for delinquent youth

  • communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing

  • coordinate the activities or tasks of people, groups and/or organization(s)

  • Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. working at great heights, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, being subject to possible physical attack, etc..

  • Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time..

  • valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a)..
