Media and Events Specialist | ReliefWeb - 2015


Manage MSH outreach and external relations with key stakeholders and media through major events and conferences.


Specific Responsibilities:


Conference and Event Management (40%)


  1. Plan, manage and coordinate MSH presence at 4-6 international/regional conferences working closely with conference technical lead and center communications professionals and other MSH staff.

  2. Coordinate conference sponsorships, exhibit set-up, prepare and disseminate conference materials, develop marketing materials for exhibit

  3. Conduct MSH staff orientation for attending conferences and handle logistics

  4. Arrange social media coverage

  5. Develop follow up stories and photos for MSH website and social media in coordination with the Online Communications Specialist

Writing and Editing (25%)


  1. Work with Production Manager and Multimedia Communications Specialist to produce written materials for conferences, including conference orientation booklet for staff; conference program and invitations, exhibit materials and marketing materials

  2. Draft press releases as assigned by Director, Strategic Communications

  3. Write blogs or social media posts for Twitter or Facebook, in coordination with the Online Communications Specialist

Media Relations (35%)


  1. Develop and maintain relationships with major reporters covering Global Health, as assigned by the Director, Strategic Communications

  2. Maintain Media List and follow global health reporters on Twitter

  3. Assist in pitching stories about MSH to major reporters covering global health

  4. Contribute to thought leadership pieces (such as blogs or op-eds) in coordination with the thought leadership team of the Communications unit

  5. Manage logistics of press events
    Qualifications:

  6. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, education, public policy, international development or related field.

  7. Minimum 4 years of relevant experience including minimum a year of experience in media relations.

  8. Demonstrated experience in media relations, event planning and logistics.

  9. Superb interpersonal and public communication skills.

  10. Ability to network and facilitate strong working relationships with event sponsors, press, partners and project teams.

  11. Excellent marketing and writing skills.

  12. Experience in development and production of exhibit materials.

  13. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently, and with multi-disciplinary professionals.

  14. Proficiency in Microsoft required; experience in social media applications preferred.

  15. Ability and willingness to travel as required
