Job Summary / Responsibilities:


FHI 360 is seeking a full-time Technical Advisor to provide technical leadership and programmatic management of programs focused on economic development including: agriculture and rural development, enterprise development, livelihoods support for low-income communities, and household economic strengthening, contributing to make markets work for the poor. The position will provide direction and support in these technical areas to ongoing programming, develop methodologies for implementation, take the lead on business development initiatives, and represent FHI 360 in various internal and external events. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience providing strategy and partnership development, technical assistance, capacity building and training to practitioners and organizations, as well as conducting assessments, strategic analysis, and providing advisory services in economic development and livelihoods. Experience with USAID-funded programming and proposal development is essential. Strong writing and representational skills, combined with ability to lead innovation and drive opportunities, are a must for this position.


Major Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Provide technical leadership in economic development and livelihoods with expertise including but not limited to one or more of the following: livelihoods support, household economics, social safety nets, asset protection; household food access; household and community resilience; poverty reduction; skills training and access to credit for vulnerable populations, rural economic development, agricultural development, agribusiness, or value chain development.

  • Identification of strategic opportunities and initiatives for FHI 360 in livelihoods and food security areas given current global initiatives (including United States Government Feed the Future and Global Health initiatives, among other relevant regional and global initiatives)

  • Lead technical efforts in proposal development and new business opportunity capture related to economic development and in particular to livelihoods and food security

  • Conduct and/or oversee country-level development initiatives;

  • Provide technical guidance in design, development, planning, implementation, and capacity-building for economic development and livelihoods components of existing and new programs

  • Work with staff and external partners to generate research, case studies and lessons learned documentation

  • Develop/maintain collaborative relationships with donors/clients, relevant government agencies, bilateral and other NGOs.

  • Identify strategic partnerships, networks and communities of practice that align with FHI 360 economic development and livelihood priorities

  • Maintain a constructive dialogue and technical exchange with field counterparts and technical staff of implementing partners and other FHI 360 departments and projects.

  • Represent FHI 360 in appropriate technical forums, events, and conferences.

  • Ensure FHI 360 programs with economic development and livelihoods components utilize evidence driven industry best practices

  • Up to 35% travel to developing country locations.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in agriculture, economic strengthening and livelihoods development or related field as outlined above, 10+ years desired.

  • Master’s degree in agriculture or related sciences, agriculture economics, rural development or its international equivalent.

  • Strong familiarity with strategy, implementation and rollout of USG Feed the Future and/or PEPFAR Initiative and other global economic development and livelihood donor funded or support initiatives (DFID, Gates, etc)

  • Ability to manage projects, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of activities.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven record of building and maintaining relationships.

  • Strong network, familiarity and experience with USAID, and other public and private donors.

  • Excellent presentation and proposal writing skills.

  • Experience writing USAID proposals required.

  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English; Spanish or French language skills a plus.

  • Informed of current program developments in division/unit/technical area.
