The University of Washington (UW) School of Public Health is one of the nation’s leading Schools of Public Health. It is based at a top public university with an extraordinary breadth of sister colleges and schools, including five other health sciences schools, and schools of law, business, engineering, arts and sciences, environment, built environments, public affairs, and others. The UW School of Public Health has identified strategic opportunities for leadership in research and educational programs focused on some of the most profound challenges facing public health in the coming decades. One of those areas is public health implementation science.

Implementation Science is an emerging field worldwide and is an essential component of translating evidence-based interventions into widely used programs and policies in both public health and health care. This discipline uses rigorous methods in practical field settings to improve health and well-being locally and globally. It draws on the intellectual traditions of public health, operations research, systems engineering, information science, and economics.

To meet this challenge, the UW School of Public Health is committed to recruiting enterprising, dynamic faculty to join SPH to create and strengthen this area. The School enjoys excellent collaborative relationships with other schools and departments at the UW and with researchers and leaders in organizations throughout the region, nation, and globe. Each of these positions will be based in either the Department of Global Health or the Department of Health Services, two of the School’s five departments, with the potential for joint appointments in other UW departments, schools and affiliated institutes.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching, research, and service. Applicants from any discipline relevant to implementation science are encouraged to apply. While significant experience overseas is not a requirement, candidates with this experience are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be passionate about their areas of expertise, be eager to engage in collaborative research, and have a strong record of achievement. A doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field is required. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must have a strong record of scholarship with experience as a principal investigator or collaborator on implementation science and experience in graduate student advising and teaching. Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and teachers.

The UW School of Public Health is strongly committed to a diverse academic community. We view diversity as essential to our mission. For more information on our commitment, please see the following website: http://www.washington.edu/diversity/.
