United States of America: Consultant, Education in Conflict

Position Summary:


Creative Associates, under the Nigeria Education Crisis Response (ECR) project, will conduct a Rapid Situational Analysis in Northern Nigeria. The purpose of this analysis is to obtain information related to access to education and the overall learning environment, teaching and learning, and parental and community perceptions of schooling in one Northern state. The consultant will work in close collaboration with the ECR Project Director, Program Associate and field team in Nigeria to accomplish the following activities:


· Complete data analysis on both qualitative and quantitative data collected in the field. This includes data from both in-depth interviews and focus group discussions, as well as school enrollment data collected from the Ministry of Education; and


· Draft (with input from field team and Creative HQ) final summary report on findings for submission to the client, which should include the following sections: Purpose and Background, Methodology and Limitations, and Findings and Recommendations.


Required Skills & Qualifications:


  • Graduate degree in international development or related field (economics, political science, education, etc.) with specialization in education in conflict and/or experience in applying a conflict lens to international development issues.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience doing research, program implementation and/or training in education in conflict.

  • Experience working on education in conflict in a medium-large sized development firm with a diversified portfolio and with teams of various sizes and on various development themes.

  • Excellent research, writing (in English) and networking skills.

  • Strategic thinker with strong planning and implementation skills.

  • Experience in designing and providing technical assistance on education in conflict programs.

  • Field experience a plus.

Position Duration:Up to 30 days (November 16, 2015–December 31, 2015), with potential to extend. Consultant should have the ability to distribute time evenly over the duration of the consultancy. Some flexibility is possible.
