BACKGROUND:
Children Without Worms (CWW) is an international non-governmental public health program, a partnership of Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, and the Task Force for Global Health. CWW supports global efforts to reduce the burden of soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH) in children who are at high-risk of infection and have limited access to safe and effective treatment. STH is a disease of poverty, affecting the health, cognitive development, and the earning potential of some 600 million children in 106 countries worldwide. After years of relative neglect, momentum in STH control is building. In April 2014, CWW and its partners launched the STH Coalition, a partnership intended to leverage increased resources and attention to intensify global STH control efforts. Partners charged CWW with serving as the Coalition secretariat and helping partners to achieve the following:
· Defining/refining Coalition strategic goals and objectives;
· Developing Coalition strategic and tactical planning;
· Clarifying roles of all sectors; and
· Expanding the Coalition around an emerging common vision for STH control.
In addition to the need for effective Coalition coordination, global STH efforts require additional resources to develop technical, programmatic, and advocacy for the global STH control program.
