Code Enforcement Administrator (Housing) - City of Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville, NC

To perform field inspections of properties to ensure compliance applicable zoning and nuisance codes, ordinances and regulations; and, perform various related technical duties.This is the full journey level class within the Code Enforcement Administrator (Housing and Code Enforcement Division) series. Employees within this class perform the full range of duties as assigned. Employees receive only occasional instructions or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Inspect single family homes, apartment buildings and other residential and commercial buildings and property including overgrown and trashy yards and lots and substandard and condemnable structures; ensure compliance with applicable zoning and nuisance codes, ordinances and regulations; perform follow-up inspections as necessary.

Prepare, review and issue notices and citations to non-complying responsible persons.

Perform research to determine the approved conditional uses of property; research owners, tax records and maps and take actions to enforce city codes.

Patrol streets and perform inspections of properties and improvements to determine compliance with zoning, property maintenance, building or health and safety requirements; issue notices of violation as necessary.

Secure and demolish condemned properties after presentation and approval by the City Council; receive and review contractor bids for lot cleaning services.

Participate in a variety of travel within city limits including site inspection and title investigations. For a complete job description, click here .

Minimum Qualifications


Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


Experience : One year of municipal code enforcement or governmental regulatory inspection experience is desirable.


Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in, code enforcement, law enforcement, construction technology, or a related field.


Licensing & Certification: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license. Must be able to meet and maintain vehicle insurability with the City of Fayetteville.


From the time of closing, the hiring process is anticipated to last 2 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the successful candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
