Enrollment Assistant job - City of New York - New York, NY
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio launched a new plan to create a New York City municipal identification card, which would be available to all New Yorkers. The New York City Municipal ID aims to bridge the gap of those New Yorkers who don’t have easy access to government issued photo identification, as well as drive access to both public and private resources.
The Enrollment Assistant will help applicants to the Municipal ID Program move through the enrollment process quickly and efficiently by verifying documents and applications for completeness and answering questions from the applicants about the program. The Enrollment Assistant may be asked to provide support to the Enrollment Specialist. Duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
• Encourage people to apply for Municipal IDs by answering questions and providing
information about the benefits and requirements for the program
• Review applicants’ documents for completeness in advance of enrollment, ensuring the
applicant has all necessary paperwork and documentation to streamline the enrollment
procedure
• Maintain order in the intake center, ensuring that all applicants know their place in the
queue and are being assisted in the order they arrived
• Manage the scheduling of appointments made by applicants to enroll in the Municipal ID
Program
• May be asked to perform data entry of Municipal ID applications
• Selected candidates must be willing to work flexible schedules which includes evenings
and weekends.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position. However, the ability to understand and carry out simple instructions is required.
2. Candidates must be able to understand and be understood in English.
Preferred Skills
• At least 1 year of experience in social service, customer service, public administration, or a
related field.
• Highly customer focused with a friendly, professional demeanor.
• Comfortable using a computer, including email, using web-based applications, and word
processing.
• Experience working for City government and/or immigrant or community based organization
entities.
• Excellent verbal communications skills.
• Highly professional demeanor.
• Must maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
• Multilingual strongly preferred.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
