Our Client, a high profile and successful membership organisation working with businesses in Watford & West Herts is seeking to recruit a General Manager / CEO.
This position will be responsible for adopting a high profile role within the local business community helping organisations to succeed by promoting their interests, offering business support and training together with the opportunities to network, with a strong emphasis on both the retention and growth of membership.
In addition the role will also involve promoting Watford to UK, European and International businesses seeking to relocate, encouraging them to make Watford their first choice.
You will report directly to the Board and have 4 direct reports.
Responsibilities and main duties
1 Events
Working with the Marketing & Events Co-ordinator you will be responsible for the organisation, running and hosting of a varied programme of events throughout the year including breakfast networking meetings, business seminars, business clinics and training events which offer value and relevance to the local business community.
2 Recruitment and retention of members
Meeting with prospective new businesses and existing business members on a regular basis. Dealing with enquiries from businesses on a daily basis, providing help where possible and signposting them to outside help if required.
3 Retention & Inward Investment
To assist in the promotion of Watford as a premier location to do business. Working closely with Watford Borough Council your role will be to promote Watford as a business location dealing as appropriate with new enquiries and assisting in the retention of existing businesses in the town
4. Community Involvement
Holding regular meetings and building strong relationships with key individuals and organisations within the community including local MPs, Elected Mayors and Council members. Acting as representative or chairing a number of boards and committees within the local business community. Helping to promote Watford as a town to work and to do business in.
5. Export Documentation
Overseeing the running of a very busy export department ensuring that the organisation retains its export accreditation status and customer satisfaction is maintained to the highest standards.
6. Watford Business Against Crime
Overseeing the running of this organisation to ensure that Watford remains a safe town to visit.
7. Accounting and Financial Matters
Preparing in conjunction with the Board business plans & budgets. To provide as required management information for the Board with a view to ensuring that stretching targets are achieved.
Candidate requirements
The successful candidate will have held a management position in a private sector service business, Chamber of Commerce or business support organisation and will be able to demonstrate a consistent record of success.
In addition the following competencies will be essential:
The ability to liaise and build strong relationships with Senior business personnel around strategic issues such as business development and business support.
A good knowledge of Watford and the surrounding area.
Exceptional diplomatic skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of people up to MD/ FD level.
A high level of communication skills including verbal, written and presentational.
Ability to work effectively with business, investors and politicians at senior levels.
