Summary of Position
IREX seeks a Project Director to direct an ECA-funded J. Christopher Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative. The initiative is a multilateral public-private partnership that will strengthen engagement between young people in the Middle East and North Africa and in the United States as a lasting tribute to the legacy of Ambassador Chris Stevens. The Stevens Initiative will use technology and online tools to achieve the largest-ever increase in people-to-people educational exchanges between the United States and the Middle East and North Africa.
The position is contingent on funding.
Summary of Responsibilities:
· Oversee all aspects of the program; supervise the planning, development of processes, schedules, and overall program events and operations
· Ensure that a cohesive program approach is applied through diverse elements of programming and across the United States and the Middle East and North Africa
· Develop and manage relationships with the donor (ECA), the White House, Foundations, MENA Governments and other stakeholders
· Develop and oversee a broad range of partnerships with the private sector, civil society, academia, and foundations that add value and substance to the Initiative
- Provide oversight to the issuance of sub-awards for ECA funds through open competition(s) to support virtual exchange programming
- Monitor the progress of awarded projects/exchanges with regular reporting of results to ECA
· Manage program budget(s) and ensure budget discipline
· Oversee program communications, outreach and marketing
· Ensure accurate reporting to all stakeholders
· Manage and mentor program staff
· International travel may be required
Skills and Qualifications:
· Significant experience building partnerships with various stakeholders including State Department and other government officials in the US and other countries, foundations, private sector, and academia.
· At least 10 years of experience in international education and/or development; proven track record in successful program implementation
· Minimum 7 years progressive experience with ECA-funded programs
· Experience with international exchanges, education, and the use of online tools and technology for education strongly preferred.
· Excellent convening ability, management, communication, and interpersonal skills
· Demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff, and manage budgets and sub-grants.
· Strong representational and organizational skills
· A Master’s degree in education, international development, international education or similar field is desired
· Fluency in English required, with excellent verbal and written communication skills; Proficiency in other relevant languages a plus.
