We’re seeking to hire a Library Associate, Full-time for the Richland Library North Main!

Richland Library North Main serves a diverse community in the Eau Claire and Columbia College area of Columbia. We are seeking someone energetic, outgoing and positive to engage with customers, both internal and external. This person is a natural teacher, trainer, and leader. Strong technology skills are a must. The ideal candidate may be someone with good experience in retail or hospitality. Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is preferred.

Here are some of things you would be doing if hired for this position:


Assisting the Richland Library North Main Manager and other staff with the overall management and leadership of the library in that location, including helping to keep the workflow moving and meeting customer experience expectations.


Answering directional and informational questions about the Library, including its services, materials, programs, and initiatives.


Assisting customers with equipment, materials, procedures, and information.


Acting to find and promote efficiencies, including working to help ensure correct location and condition of items and materials so that customers receive materials and services they desire.


Contributing effectively to understanding and maintaining the system for organizing and moving materials through the system.


Assisting with adult and children’s programming.


Assisting in training and supervising part-time employees and volunteers, and guiding priorities within activities and tasks.


Helping to oversee the Library operations during absence of higher level staff.


Actively supporting the needs of the Library, including opening and closing procedures; supplies, statistics and cash reconciliations; cleaning, checking, and trouble-shooting equipment; shelving materials and sustaining the Library’s collection.

High school diploma, plus at least two years of training from a college, university, or business school. Transcripts must be provided upon hire.


One year clerical or other relevant work experience; equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Preference may be given to relevant experience within a service industry.


Excellent communication and technical skills, including a good understanding of technology.


Additional skills as required by job, and ability to perform duties of the job.


Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is preferred. Please be sure to indicate it clearly on the application if you are bilingual in Spanish and English.

This job involves being “on the move” in our libraries: It will include standing, walking, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week: Mon., Tue., Wed. 12:30-9 pm, Thurs. 1-9 pm; Alt. Fri/Sat 9-6 pm
