Chemonics seeks a deputy project director for the anticipated five-year, $145-million USAID Human Resources for Health 2030 (HRH2030) Project, expected to be awarded and operational by October 2015. The project aims to improve the accessibility, availability, acceptability, quality, and productivity of the health workforce in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The project will support the growth and development of the "sufficient, fit-for-purpose and fit-to-practice" health workforce for improving health outcomes and advancing countries toward universal health coverage through global leadership and the introduction, scale-up, and sustainability of innovative HRH interventions. It will assist in increasing the number, skill mix, and competency of the health workforce, strengthening leadership and governance capacity, and building sustainability of investment in the health workforce. Country-level activities will contribute to achieving the U.S. government"s commitments including Ending Preventable Child and Maternal Deaths, AIDS-Free Generation as part of the President"s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, Protecting Communities from Infectious Diseases, and Family Planning 2020. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. The deputy project director will be based in Washington, D.C.


Responsibilities include:


  • Support the project director, including providing sufficient management coverage to field and headquarter staff and coordinating with USAID and all other stakeholders and partners

  • Ensure coordination and collaboration across technical areas and between headquarters and the field, to promote a comprehensive approach to HRH interventions

  • Ensure that all project work follows USAID regulations as well as the development and management of a high-quality monitoring and evaluation system

Qualifications:


  • Advanced degree in health or management-related discipline

  • Minimum eight years of experience designing, implementing, and managing large, complex public health projects in/for developing countries, of which at least four years has been spent focusing on human resources for health and/or health systems strengthening issues

  • Skilled in leading and managing a large high-performing team of senior managers and technicians

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills that will enhance coordination and collaboration throughout the project

  • Demonstrated ability to work with cooperating partners in implementing complex programs

  • Notable experience in the area of gender

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills; proven diplomatic and public relations skills

  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity

  • Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French, Spanish, or Portuguese preferred
