Supervisor, Accounts payable
Job Description
The Supervisor, Accounts Payable will be responsible for oversight and supervision of the North America invoice process, including the US, Canada and Mexico operations. The prime candidate for this position will be self-motivated, detail oriented and well organized, and should excel in a fast-paced, results-oriented, ever-changing environment. This position is a key support person for the Manager, Accounts Payable and is expected to team closely with the Manager, Accounts Payable to ensure all department requirements are met. In this role, the Supervisor, Accounts Payable initially will:
- Directly supervise and develop staff of five or more people responsible for North America accounts payable processing
- Provide indirect supervision to EMEA team as required
- Ensure processing exceptions are resolved timely and work with internal and external customers as required to facilitate closure
- Ensure proper entry compliance for sales/use and other local tax requirements
- Administer pay cycles for North America and EMEA, including both accounts payable and expense report pay cycles
- Allocate work among team members as required to meet processing and payment deadlines
- Understand processing targets and measure team performance against such targets
- Ensure 100% compliance with Sarbanes Oxley processes and controls and assist in compliance testing as required
- Coordinate assignment of special projects among staff
- Participate in ERP implementation, and work closely with the AP Manager to implement new applications and processes to streamline and/or improve the accounts payable processes
- Ensure desk procedures are complete and maintained up to date
- Perform AP staff management requests
- Complete assigned month-end close duties, including journal entries and account reconciliations and support Manager, Accounts Payable in other month-end duties as required
As this is an ever-changing environment, the responsibilities assigned to this person may change over time. The successful candidate will be open to change, and suggest ways in which to better organize the team or more efficiently meet department requirements.
Job Requirements
- BS Degree Business Administration or Accounting required
- 5+ years accounting experience
- Previous supervisory experience preferred (2+ years)
- Exposure to indirect tax processing for North America
- VAT, European invoice processing, or other local reporting a plus
- Excellent PC skills including advanced Excel skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; focused on follow through to deliver excellent customer service for both internal and external customers
- Strong analytical ability and sound decision making and judgment skills
- Must be a self-starter, well-organized, detailed and results oriented
- Experience in ERP environment a plus, preferably in SAP or Oracle
- Enjoys a fast-paced results-oriented multi-tasking environment where change is required quickly and “on your feet” thinking is commonplace
- Team player needed to work closely and provide exceptional service with both internal customers and external customers alike
