FOOD PRODUCTS STANDARDIZATION INSPECTOR R II - State of Arizona - Nogales, AZ

The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for 8 seasonal Food Product Standardization Inspector II for our Citrus Fruit and Vegetable program. These positions are located in Nogales Arizona.


JOB DESCRIPTION:


These positions will assist with a high volume of produce and importation mandatory inspections.


The major job responsibilities are to sample, inspect and issue certificates for fresh produce to ensure meeting USDA grade requirements for entry from Mexico into the United States. Respond to technical questions by industry on produce, listens, ask questions, gives information, suggestions or referrals as needed to keep industry informed as to product quality. Assists/trains other inspectors as needed, maintaining knowledge to accurately grade products. The inspectors will be required to drive to and from various inspection sites in Nogales and Rio Rico, Arizona.


Knowledge of:


Basic Math Calculations


U SDA guidelines in sample selection and grading procedures


K nowledge to interpret written instructions, rules and regulations


U SDA Standards on fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts


Skills in:


Use of calculator and basic computer


I nterpreting and applying US Grade Standards and Inspection handbook instructions


H andwriting skills and attention to detail


C onsistent and unbiased judgment decision making


Ability to:


Follow oral and written instructions


F ollow a complex and flexible work schedule


C ommunicate effectively both orally and in writing


E stablish and form a good working relationship with industry workers


A dapt to varied climatic working conditions — hot, cold, windy etc.


SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S):


Requires possession of and the ability to retain a current Arizona driver’s license. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving record and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12). The employee will have to provide their own transportation and will be compensated for mileage while conducting state business.


A pre-employment physical is required for this position.
