Afterschool Group Educator - YMCA Greater Boston - Reading, MA

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
Implement curriculum on a daily basis

Assist youth with homework


Keep safety of children as a first priority. Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well being with the children, families and other staff at all times.


By personal example, helps to interpret the quality of the YMCA character values of children, staff and families.


Must be a positive role model.


Uses positive and constructive methods of behavior guidance and ensures that all staff does the same.


Supervises children to ensure safety and appropriate behavior and manage transitions smoothly.


Works to meet daily duties/needs of the program and to be responsible for making sure that materials are read for use and put away at he end of the day.


Implements a variety of recreational and educational programs that emphasize group participation and character development


Provides activities that foster creativity and awareness of various cultural, educational, recreational, environmental and social issues.


Maintains accurate attendance records daily. Stays alert to children’s needs


Frequently takes face counts at he beginning, during and at the end of each activity period.


Reports all accidents and unusual incidents immediately and assists with necessary documentation.


Attends all staff meetings, training sessions and program special events.


Participates in at least twenty hours of training per year.


Abides by the established EEC/YMA OST policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines. Don’t be afraid to ask when in doubt.


Performs other duties as required by supervisor (remain flexible)

Requirements


REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:
¨ High School Diploma required


¨ Minimum one (1) year working with school age children and at least six (6) months experience working with youth ages 5-14


¨ Ability to work independently and as a member of a team


¨ CPR and First Aid certified
