Shelter, Inc. is currently looking for a talented individual to join our advocacy and outreach team as the Sexual Assault Services & Outreach Advocate .

Our professional staff supports and advocates for survivors and their families with a variety of free and voluntary services and resources that include a 24-hour help and support line, advocacy, counseling, supportive listening, emergency shelter, and long term housing.
The Sexual Assault Services & Outreach Advocate will work directly with survivors of sexual and domestic violence whom are accessing optional services with the agency. Additionally, the Sexual Assault Services & Outreach Advocate will be a primary contact person for community agencies and will attend monthly and other meetings with partner-agencies in a five-county service area. The Sexual Assault Services & Outreach Advocate will partner with colleagues to build positive relationships with agencies, community members, and previously unidentified partners in the communities we serve. The person in this position will champion agency Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities in an effort to raise awareness, knowledge and understanding in the community regarding sexual violence as well as the agencies services available to the entire community population.
The successful candidate must possess strong group leadership abilities, have educational and work experience in the areas of human services, social work or related field; preferably working in a sexual and domestic violence community program. They must demonstrate the ability to foster professional relationships and should possess knowledge of community resources, media and publication development work. This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related area and prefers a minimum of 2 years related experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist victims/survivors in accessing resources, services and supports within communities we serve.
- Provide trauma-informed survivor directed advocacy and support services.
- Develop and maintain collaborative and planning relationships with law enforcement, prosecution and court systems throughout the five primary service counties.
- Advocate for victims/survivors with local systems, agencies and community groups in a manner consistent with agency Core Competencies of Advocacy.
- Recruit, screen, and train community members (including survivors) to serve as Shelter, Inc. sexual assault program volunteers.
- Assist in the development of sexual assault program assessment tools, survivor intake tools, service procedures, and referral protocols.
- Research, maintain and disseminate to all staff current information regarding community resources beneficial and accessible to survivors of sexual violence.
- Provide crisis intervention services to survivors of sexual violence and to family, friends or significant others affected by the assault.
- Coordinate the development and facilitation of survivor information and support groups.
- Strategize, plan and implement policies, procedures, outreach activities, service assessments and plans to reach underserved populations.
- Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work with individuals and groups from diverse populations and organizations.
- Ability to maintain cooperative and professional demeanor with agency staff/board, clients, consultants, allied professionals and the general public.
- Must be able to foster positive working relationships with people and create an accessible environment.
- Sensitivity to the impact of sexual violence in diverse and marginalized communities and the ability to articulate these concerns with regard to sexual violence in a sensitive and respectful manner.
- Proven ability to work in a culturally diverse environment, and commitment to social justice practice.
- Serve on a minimum of one agency/staff committee.
- Maintain professional collaborative relationships within and outside of the agency.
- Assist in the agency’s ongoing staff-training activities.
- Attend all trainings as required by agency, funding/accreditation source standards.
- Perform additional program tasks as prescribed by contract requirements and supervision/administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of two years related job experience preferred.
- Must complete job related training within 180 days of employment.
- Must possess or attain Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification within the first 180 days of employment.
- Must possess adequate physical stamina and dexterity to perform all listed duties.
- Must possess adequate verbal and written communication skills to perform all listed duties.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record as well as provide proof of valid insurance.
- Must satisfactorily complete a criminal background and central registry clearance.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Direct care environment yields less than 2% chance of communicable disease.
