As a Utilities Dispatcher, you will:
Contact or dispatch crews, mobile units or personnel to address repair, service or emergency needs
Receive, comprehend, and rapidly relay accurate information
Monitor, manage, and coordinate traffic on several radio channels
Proficiently use and operate software systems such as the Customer Care and Billing System and dispatching system
Assist callers in emergency situations and accurately ascertain the location and nature of the emergency, providing safety precautions prior to the technicians arrival
Monitor dispatched units for completion of task, emergency or availability
Coordinate communications and information with field crews, mobile units, other personnel and agencies
Respond to telephone requests for emergency and non-emergency assistance
Respond to inquiries from the public regarding activities or directing public to the appropriate source
Operate a variety of equipment including two-way radios, telephones, computers, printers and call-management in accordance with organizational regulations and guidelines
Prepare and maintaining records, logs, reports, and forms
Verify access to buildings and facilities during swing shifts
Plan, prioritize and schedule daily work activities of appropriate field personnel
Comply with the safety and health program in support of an incident and injury free workplace
Perform other related duties as requested or required

What will it take to be successful? While most candidates in this occupation would have completed a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and have about six months to two years experience in a relevant dispatching or customer service oriented field, the ideal candidate will have two to three years dispatch or call center experience. Utility experience is a plus.
