Description of Job Duties

Inspect mowing and snow removal contracts. Has responsibility for monitoring and verifying equipment rental usage contractors. Coordinates crew assignments. Oversee and monitor custodial security policies and procedure in the use of inmate crews on roadways. Snow and Ice removal. Operates intermediate equipment such as backhoe, front-end loader, grader, tandem truck, tow paver, hydro seeder. Cutting brush/flagging traffic/picking up litter. Perform other duties assigned.

Characteristics of the Job :

Coordinates highway maintenance and repair projects and/or inspects mowing/snow removal contracts and/or has responsibility for monitoring and verifying equipment rental usage contractors. May coordinate crew assignments. Responsible for implementing custodial security policies and procedures in the use of inmate crews on roadways. Performs advanced level work in roadway or roadside maintenance operations. Operates intermediate equipment such as backhoe, front-end loader, grader, tandem truck, tow paver, hydro seeder; and performs other duties as required.


Typical Working Conditions and Unique Physical Requirements :

Incumbents in this job typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility, at work sties throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Positions in this job must possess the ability to walk, sit, stoop and bend. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Works extended hours and be outside during inclement weather. Must be able to respond to emergencies.


Additional Requirements :

Upon appointment, employees in this class may be required to maintain a valid driver’s license and required to drive a licensed vehicle. This status may be necessary for the length of time in this class. If this is necessary it will be listed in the specific position description for that position.
