General Information
This recruitment is for an entry level position in the Hydro Operator Classification . This position has a rotating shift schedule, and the successful candidate must be willing to work overtime, be available for emergency call-ins, and provide acceptable off hours contact via telephone.
- This recruitment is based on the terms and conditions as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Responsibilities Actively engage in a training program, focused on a primary river system. Progression to Hydro Operator 3 Required; Once qualified, primary responsibilities include automated operation and control of all hydro facilities within areas of jurisdiction, including overseeing local operation and control; Qualify on the hydro switching and tagging procedures; Develop a working knowledge of company policies and procedures; Develop a working knowledge of systems relating to Wind Power and responding as required;
Other duties as required.
Qualifications and Education
Qualifications:
Knowledge of basic electricity and power plant physical science is desired as well as basic MS Office applications Word and Excel;
Ability to master and apply fundamentals of computer operations, including word processing Excel spreadsheets, PI and email;
Excellent mathematical skills and strong attention to detail;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Knowledge of telephone and email etiquette;
Able to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED required; or have 2 years of previous employment experience.
A minimum of two years past power plant operations experience and/or a two year technical degree in a related field preferred.
- This position requires candidates to: Have and maintain a valid driver’s license; Provide a driver’s abstract for review; Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing.
- Depending on the qualifications of the applicants, the successful candidate may be offered a position at a more appropriate level and/or ladder.
