United States of America: Human Resources Manager


POSITION SUMMARY:


The HR Manager provides high level HR project support in areas of policy and compliance, and manages the design and administration of Internews’ benefit programs and services including but not limited to health, disability insurance, pension, and security for corporate employees and consultants. The HR Manager will assist in developing policies and processes utilized by HQ and the field, and benefit and service program strategies that are market competitive, internally equitable, and compliant with organizational policy and government regulations. The HR Manager has responsibilities across all HR functional areas, and may be required to manage HR related projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:


Benefits Management – 60% LOE



  • Benefits Administration


    • Manage the implementation, open enrollments and administration of corporate employee and consultant benefit programs including health, ancillary, workers compensation, employee assistance, 401(k)/Retirement, flexible and supplemental plans, COBRA administration, travel insurance and security providers.

    • Manage the corporate relationship with Internews benefit vendors and brokers

    • Process vendor invoices, perform vendor audits, and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims, and costs.

    • Manage benefit plan enrollment and termination, and resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives and staff.

    • Create and distribute educational materials, policies, and forms related to all benefit plans.

    • Manage the validation, approval, and implementation of medical leaves of absence.

    • Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the organization’s benefits packages including information about benefit changes and government-mandated disclosures that impact them.

    • Individual benefits consulting for staff with questions, and targeted benefits presentations for those going to high risk post locations.



  • Benefits Analysis


    • Research and analyze benefit package options to identify and present recommendations for plan additions and changes that best meet both the budgetary and cultural needs of the organization.

    • Monitor all benefit programs to assure compliance with Federal, State, IRS and ERISA regulations.

    • Participate in benefit surveys and analyze results compared to current benefit packages.

    • Keep current with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the benefits field.


HR Generalist – 40% LOE


QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource and/or 4 years of experience with increased responsibility in the Human Resources field

  • Experience in design, implementation, and administration of complicated benefit plans

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, sometimes to challenging environments

  • Ability and willingness to carry a corporate cell phone and connect online from home to respond to work needs evenings/weekends when necessary.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and/or sensitive information

  • Ability to negotiate conflict and maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of an organization (both inside and outside the company)

  • Proven communication skills. Can speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, strong group presentation skills.

  • Ability to learn new duties and adjust to new situations encountered on the job within a reasonable amount of time

  • Ability to reach out and serve as an effective liaison to employees and vendors

  • Excellent writing skills, able to translate detailed information to various constituencies with varying levels of subject matter knowledge

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines; accomplish work in order of priority; professionally maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions

  • Ability to use PC and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word), HRIS/database

  • Ability to learn new software

  • Ability to contribute to decision-making affecting HR strategy

  • Proven ability to handle confidential information professionally

Preferred


  • Professional certifications in HR

  • Experience in working with HRIS programs

  • Experience working for an international organization

  • Experience working in the non-profit sector
